Class 5: Relaxation and Seeing Things Clearly
September 20, 2024

Readings:

—Chapter 3 (Relaxation)
—Chapter 4 (Awareness), pp. 52-61.

—Gold, A., "Mindfulness: A Challenge for our Times" [Found in Handout].

Writing Assignment (1-2 Pages)

—After reading the Chapter on Relaxation and the article by Judge Gold, write a 1 page paper setting forth (1) which relaxation practice you found most useful, if any, and why, (2) your understanding of the relationship between Mindfulness Practices and Settling Techniques and how you might integrate this understanding into your life as a law students and future lawyer.

—Apply the Mindful Living Flow diagram to an experience of yours this week. Be sure to apply each and every element in the diagram to your experience.

Mindfulness Practice (at least 5-days)

—Practice the 12-Minute Body Scan at least 2X and the Focused Attention Practice at least 2X. Recall that attending a Mindful Space counts as your daily practice.

If you wish, one of your FA practices can be a 12-minute practice outside using your crayons as you did last week. There is no need to bring the crayons to class this week.

Continue to note your practice using the Times, Duration, etc. boxes in the Practice Journal. Whether you note your observations in your Practice Journal if up to you.

Informal Mindfulness Practice

Try to do the PMP Practice at your PMP Point at least once each day this week.
When you come to a pause, practice STOP.
Also, practice "Drop the Story, Feel the Energy" when you find yourself feeling a bit stressed.

Assignment:
Due Wednesday at 8:00pm
