Freedom
Reading
Chapter 15 (Freedom).
Please come to class prepared to discuss what you found interesting in the chapter and how it relates to you.
Freedom Assignment: Photograph
As discussed in class, our classroom will be turned into a museum and we will tour our own creative expressions. This will take the form of drawings, haiku, and your final assignment, a photographic self-portrait. While the haiku and drawings will largely be without attribution, your self-portrait and accompanying title and description will convey what freedom means to you. The final class reading will help inform what we mean by freedom.
Here is the assignment:
1. Have someone (someone can be you) take a picture of yourself. Give thought to the elements of this image and how it conveys a sense of freedom or answers the question "Who Am I?"
2. Provide a "phrase" or title to accompany the image.
3. Include an Affirmation that you find meaningful.
4. Craft a few sentences that describes the image and what it means to you—something that may serve as an important reminder that would be helpful to reflect on during challenging times.
E-mail your image as an attachment to an e-mail with the "phrase" and your description contained in the body of the e-mail. Use the Subject Line: MIL_F2024_Self-Portrait_[your last name]
Please e-mail to Youssra and me by the end of the day on Wednesday (anytime if fine).
Mindfulness Practice
This can be an important week to put things together …
1. Practice the mindfulness practice you plan to include in your paper.
2. Practice the Settling Technique(s) you plan to include in your paper.
3. If the idea of a Sandwich Practice resonates with you, refine one and try it out. Note that this is for you and not something you'll necessarily need/want to include in your paper.
4. Practice your Present Moment Pivot/STOP practice.
5. Be creative with the SoBe Mindful practice cube as a useful mindfulness cue.
We began with self-leadership and we close with freedom. In many ways we come full circle.
I look forward to seeing you on Friday.
