An Interview with Paul Singerman (ABA GP Solo)
Do Not Interrupt (ABA YLD)

Come to Class Prepared to Discuss Chapters 7 and 8 and DNI:
As you will begin working on your Outlines and continue working on your "Challenges and Obstacles," there is no written assignment from the readings. To help facilitate class discussion around the readings, be prepared to discuss:

Connection:
1. What are the elements of a Connection practice?
2. In what ways did you choose to practice/experience gratitude?
3. In what ways is a Connection practice similar to and different from the other practices we have learned?

Self-Care:
1. What form of Self-Care were you able to practice and what was it like to do so?
2. What are some obstacles to engaging in the Self-Care?
3. What connection do you see between Self-Care and Solitude? between Mindfulness Practice and Solitude?

Practice
Practice "Connection" (which is shared in Chapter 7) on at least two days and note your observations on the Practice Journal. On other days practice the primary mindfulness practice you plan to address in your paper.

Continue to practice DNI—as a technique and as a mindfulness practice, noting in real time the relationship between the two.

Outline Assignment

Craft a 1-page outline that sets forth the primary sections you plan to address in your paper.

Madeline will set up 30-minute 1-1 meetings with you over the next two weeks so that we can discuss your outline and direction of your paper. I am happy to meet with you for longer, if you'd like to schedule a longer meeting and/or to meet with you as often as would be helpful as you develop and work on your paper.

To help you think through your outline, things that I look for when reading your papers include:

1. An overview (i.e., a roadmap of what you'll be addressing across the paper).
2. A discussion of why you chose your topic (what it means to you and why it is important).
3. What you want the reader to take away from the paper.
4 An introduction to the role of mindfulness and mindfulness practices in the legal profession.
5. A basic understanding of mindfulness.
6. How your topic connects with mindfulness.
7. The role of mindfulness practices and settling techniques in relation to your topic.
8. A discussion of mindfulness practices (and ultimately a focus on the primary practice you plan to explore).
9. How to practice(offering at least one example of each MP and ST that you have found useful).
10. The challenges of practice and ways of working with them.
11. The benefits of practicing mindfulness—and cultivating greater mindful awareness.
12. An explanation of why the practice of mindfulness may lead to these benefits.
13. Lessons you are learning.
14. Tips for practice.
15. Conclusion

So that you have the week to reflect and work on your outline, you may submit it via e-mail anytime before 8:00pm on Thursday.
