Class 11: Creativity
(Class Meets Early at Lowe Art Museum)
April 5, 2024

***REMINDER: Class will meet at 8:30 at the Lowe Art Museum. Upon our return to class, we'll take a short break and continue until our regularly scheduled close at 12:20.

Readings

Chapter 14 (Creativity)
Chapter 10 (Practice)

Refining Practice
Fill in the Practice Calendar (handed out in class) with the Mindfulness Practice and Settling Technique (no need to fill in the But-For Pause) you plan to write about in your paper.

1-1 Meetings
Continue to work on the "challenges" and "obstacles" you plan to address in your paper. Before we meet, have at least one set (i.e., a challenge and an associate obstacle) written down on the calendar and bring it with you to our meeting so that we can discuss.

After reading Chapter 10 and learning about Sandwich Practices, create your own and practice it at least two times this week.
In class, each of you will discuss the Sandwich Practice you created and how you structured it.

Ted Talk: 5-Minutes of Haiku

Mindfulness Practice
Following your Practice Calendar, practice once each day—or as often as you choose—as you are now leading yourself, whether it be more or less often.

Creative (plan to spend at least 20 minutes outside, bring crayons and Weekly Calendar)
One day go outside with your crayons and draw what you see in nature. Afterward, continue to spend a few minutes in solitude, practice Open Monitoring (guided or self-guided for at least 6-minutes), and then craft a haiku—using your crayons to write it in on the back of the card stock weekly calendar. You can think of this as a Sandwich Practice (Draw Outdoors-Open Monitoring—Create Haiku)

On two other days, after doing a practice or settling technique, craft another hauku. You'll have a total of three haiku written open the back of the calendar that you'll bring to class.
