Daily Practices
Use your Practice Calendar (or this new one) to schedule in a Primary Mindfulness Practice and Settling Technique for the week. Remember keep it real. One the Weekly Schedule about that you can print, you have room to make notes for purposes of your paper.

You may also wish to continue to journal your observations, though this is up to you. At this point in your mindfulness journey you have all the information you need and practice experience under your belt to lead yourself into the closing weeks of the semester, and beyond.

Sandwich Practices
As did not get to share and discuss Sandwich Practices in class and will do so this week.
If you found them to be helpful, continue to utilize/experiment with them.

Creative Assignment: Photograph

As discussed in class, plan and then have someone (someone can be you) take a picture of yourself, in the spirit of "Colleen," and the discussion had in the Lowe Art Museum with Dr. Porter about that image. We will be assembling these to share so please bear this in mind in terms of attention given to the assignment. Along with each, provide the "phrase" that accompanies it—the reminder that would be helpful to reflect on during challenging times. I would also be interested in your offering a few words about what the image means to you.

E-mail your image as an attachment to an e-mail with the "phrase" and your comments contained in the body of the e-mail. Use the Subject Line: MIL_S2024_Self-Portrait_[your last name]

DNI Practice
When you become aware of the impulse to interrupt, ask yourself about the impulse "Is it useful?" If the answer is yes, then by all means speak—experimenting with how you might do so in a more wise, compassionate, and fruitful way.

Written Assignment:
There is no writing assignment this week so that you may continue to work on your papers.
This Week's But For Pause

This week's But-For Pause is an important Triangle Practice, with the count 4-7-8.

Please practice at least once so we can discuss in class.

I am sharing this video so you can hear Dr. Andrew Weil's (a founder of integrative medicine) recommendations on the frequency and regularity of practice, as I believe this applies across the different breathing techniques. I am confident you will find his discussion of interest.

As discussed in class, explore a breathing practice ONLY IF your experience indicates one may be of benefit to you and worth integrating into your day.
